Improved Google Search for all BlackBerry OS 6.0 devices, about time

The boys in the labs down at Google HQ have been tinkering and tweaking recently and on Thursday released the latest iteration of Google search for BlackBerry webkit 6.0 devices (obviously this means you’re running BB OS 6 or higher).
gsmarena 001 Improved Google Search for all BlackBerry OS 6.0 devices, about time
Assuming you’re the browsing type you might have already noticed the improvements they’ve brought to the table in the past two days, but in case you haven’t, there are four aspects that Google have focused on.

For a start there’s now autocomplete on your search terms which works just like the full-fat version of Google updating as you type. Each results page now comes with more options too, like Realtime so you can filter your results how you’d like. If you’ve got a touchscreen enabled BB, image search now allows you to swipe through image results, similar to the iOS version and adds a tap to see the full size image mode, from what I can gather the swipe function obviously doesn’t work on non-touch based BBs but they still receive the update. Finally there’s location based searching, so you can find places like businesses and shops locally straight on your device.

Google say it’s already out in 20 languages across 70 countries and no doubt will come to more BB owners soon. A little late to the party perhaps but still just as welcome. Have you noticed the improvements and have they helped with the BlackBerry browsing experience?

Blackberry Touch Monaco/Monza Leaked

Blackberry Touch Monaco/Monza Leaked

The phone in the picture above is the latest full touchscreen device from Blackberry that has just been leaked. It is known as the Touch Monaco/Monza.
The smartphone will be known by both names. The different names indicate the region and operator. It will be launched as the Monaco on the Verizon Wireless network in USA while the Monza is the global GSM version.
The phone does away with the SurePress technology featured in the Storm devices that wasn’t very user friendly. The device might not even belong to the Storm family of Blackberry phones.
The phone will run on Blackberry 6.1 OS and will need a Blackberry ID rather than a Blackberry PIN to login to the system. The advantage is that it makes backing up data and restoring it much easier.
The phone should be announced in a few months. Nothing more is known about the dewvice. We will keep you informed as new information appears.

BlackBerry Touch Monaco leaks

BlackBerry Touch Monaco, also known as Monza, has leaked again and this time we get live photos. The smartphone is said to run on the BlackBerry OS 6.1 and tie closely to your BlackBerry ID.
The Monaco and Monza monikers actually mark two different versions of the device - the first one is headed to Verizon, while the second should be available worldwide.
The new BlackBerry OS will require you to log in with your BlackBerry ID to gain access to its full functionality. There will also be built-in support for backup and restore of your data.
BlackBerry Monaco/Monza
The BlackBerry Monaco/Monza duo is expected to be announced this May at the BlackBerry World event. It is likely to be launched as a part of the new Touch series rather than as a part of the Storm lineup.
We'll keep you updated if more information about the specs of the Monaco surface.

Specs leak: BlackBerry Torch 9860 (Monza), Bold Touch 9900 (Dakota)

Specs leak: BlackBerry Torch 9860 (Monza),

Bold Touch 9900 (Dakota)

The BlackBerries keep leaking - it’s the Dakota (a.k.a. Bold Touch) and the Monza (GSM version of the Monaco) this time around. What leaked are sheets of each and every spec for both phones – there are no leaked official photos but we have unofficially leaked ones, so that’s OK.
The BlackBerry Monza, also listed as Torch 9860, packs a 1.2GHz CPU, 768MB RAM, 4GB built-in memory and microSD card slot. This is packed in a 120 x 62 x 11.5mm body.
BlackBerry Torch 9860 (a.k.a. Monza)
The Monza/Torch features a 3.7” WVGA screen with 253DPI pixel density and a 5MP camera with 720p video recording. It’s a GSM phone (unlike the Verzion-bound Monaco), so you can count on quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and 3G with HSDPA (14.4Mbps)/HSUPA (5.76Mbps). There’s Wi-Fi b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+A2DP as well as an A-GPS receiver.
You can check out some spy shots of the BlackBerry Torch (Monza/Monaco) from before.
The BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 (a.k.a. Dakota) is a QWERTY bar with 2.8” VGA capacitive touchscreen (287DPI). Some of the cooler specs we’ve seen are backed by these leaked specs – a 10.5mm thin frame, a 1.2GHz processor with 768MB RAM and 8GB of built-in memory. The camera is a 5MP snapper capable of 720p video capture.
BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 (a.k.a. Dakota)
The BlackBerry Bold Touch 9900 is a GSM device (there were rumors of it being GSM/CDMA dual-mode) with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and 14.4Mbps HSDPA/5.76Mbps HSUPA. Wi-Fi a/b/g/n (2.4GHz and 5GHz) is supported too.
Of course, these specs are unofficial and might change before the Monza/Torch and Dakota/Bold Touch launch. The Dakota specs for one say “Update: January 20”, but we’ll keep our fingers crossed that RIM won’t remove any of the cool features.
